An efficient proper orthogonal decomposition based reduced-order model for compressible flows

This paper presents a novel, more efficient proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) based reduced-order model (ROM) for compressible flows. In this POD the governing equations, i.e., conservation of mass, momentum, and energy equations were written using specific volume instead density. substitution allowed pre-computation coefficients system ODEs that make up model. Several methods employed to enhance stability ODE solver: penalty method enforce boundary conditions, artificial dissipation, modifies number modes used in approximation. new POD-based was validated two cases: two-dimensional channel three-dimensional axisymmetric nozzle. The speedup obtained by ROM vs. full-order exceeded four orders magnitude all cases tested.
